Since I made my New Year’s resolution of keeping a tidy coffee table, I have a whole new appreciation for how beautiful fresh-cut flowers look in the middle of it. At work, we’re lucky to have this huge flower shipper right next door. On Fridays, they sell $5 bouquets and everyone walks over to see. If you don’t like any of the pre-arranged bouquets, the people that run the place are incredibly sweet and will let you roam around in their back cooler where there are a gazillion different flowers to pick from. I’ve seen so many different kinds that I’ve never seen before, so it’s kind of an exciting adventure every time I’m there.
One day, in a moment of overwhelming flower-picking indecision, I asked the owner what her favorite flower was. She had to think about it for a few minutes, but then decided if she could only pick one, it would definitely be peonies. I don’t have a favorite, but I like the idea of having one. It would make it all the more special when people surprised you with them. My cousin Denise loves dahlias, my sister loves daffodils and lilies. Do you have a favorite?

p.s. Isn’t that bottom photo mysterious and magical? Like she is sneaking away to visit her groom for a quiet moment on their big day right before the sunrise.
Peonies for me too… And daisies, and bluebells…. Great swathes of them… Did you ever watch that movie about Keats… 'Bright Star'… The field of bluebells in it is a scene worth watching the entire movie for 🙂
Hey, Happy Chinese New Year – hope the Year of the Dragon brings good things to your doorstep xxx
I do love pink peonies, and peach tulips, and white hydrangeas. It's hard to pick a favorite – flowers are all just so beautiful 🙂
That's a great New Year's resolution! I should make that mine too, since it gets so messy sometimes. And buying fresh flowers every week would just be icing on the cake 😉
I love the look of daisies. They are a happy, smiling flower. I don't know why, but I think they smile! But, I do love to smell flowers, and they really don't offer much in the way of smell. So anything lovely and smelly. The good kind of smelly.
peonies for me too, they are so fluffy and romantic looking 😉
hope you had a great weekend my dear!
orchids! the only type of flower that doesn't make me sneeze 😉
Peonies – for the way they look but even more the way they smell! And colorful ranunculus flowers are so beautiful in a bunch.
shaista, i'll have to check that movie out! happy new year to you, too!
peonies seem to be a popular favorite 🙂
Orange calla lilies are my favorite! And on my birthday last year, I woke up to Korb planting them outside our front door as a birthday surprise for me! There is something extra special about a guy who will not only buy you your favorite flowers, but will plant them for you so you can enjoy them every day 🙂
michelle, that is so sweet! you have a winner!!
