I’m Still Here!

General

Hello friends, I’m sorry for the radio silence. Two weeks ago, Alan had a 14-hour surgery to remove a serious cancerous mass from his pelvis. It has been a crazy challenging time for us, but after 12 days in the hospital, Alan’s finally on the road to recovery. Although the surgeons deemed the operation a success, we’re still waiting with bated breath for the final report this week. We have no idea what the future holds, but we do know that there’s a chance now he can live until we’re both old and gray.

A few notes:

*Hospitals are scary. I imagine they’re kind of like casinos when you’re on a losing streak. You lose track of how long you’ve been there, you can’t remember what it feels like to be outside and no one ever seems to sleep.
*The most vexing phrase ever muttered by a nurse: “What do you need now?”
*The most vexing phrase ever muttered by a doctor: “This isn’t a hotel.”

And to end on a positive one:

*We couldn’t have made it this far without the love and support from our friends and family. It has been so amazing—thinking about it always makes me cry. I want to kiss them all. (You know who you are.)

Anyway, please forgive me for any inconsistent posting in the coming weeks. I have lots of post ideas stored in the notes app on my phone and am excited to share them.

p.s. Aren’t these orchids beautiful? Some very lovely people sent them to us in the hospital. They’re from Flowers by Ivy, my friend Jennifer’s mom’s flower shop 🙂
