My Favorite Where-Have-You-Been-All-My-Life Products

I love sharing my favorite products with readers, friends and family. These are the products that work like no other, the ones that, quite simply, make life easier and a little bit better. I hope I can help you find your next favorite pair of shoes, set of knives or mascara. And hopefully you, too, will soon be asking, “Where have you been all my life?”

Fashion & Beauty

Softwalk Napa Ballet Flat — Flats for wide feet are usually way matronly and orthopedic-looking, while regular ballet flats are too narrow and tight for me. So, I was thrilled when I discovered these shoes. They come in wide widths, have pillowy foot beds (so you don’t feel like you’re walking barefoot) and look like regular ballet flats! I can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking for cute flats for wide feet.

Isehan Kiss Me Heroine Long & Curl Mascara — This is the best mascara I’ve ever tried. People ask if I’m wearing fake eyelashes! I just curl my lashes, apply two coats and, like magic, my eyes look bigger and I look more awake. It’s like a cup of coffee for your face! If you have stick-straight lashes like me, you’ll be so excited to find this holds your curl all day. See my before and after here.

Laura Mercier Mineral Powder — I don’t wear very much makeup, but one thing people often hone in on is my skin. “It’s so flawless,” they’ll say. Or “You have the best skin.” But it’s really just this powder! “Great skin for all!” I always want to say. It’s super easy to apply (I use a big fluffy brush) and wears really well all day, so even when you start getting a little shiny or sweaty (story of my life), your skin still looks pretty. My color is classic beige.

Sephora Retractable Brow Pencil – Waterproof — My sister Sophie introduced me to these eyebrow pencils that do an amazing job of filling in sparse eyebrows. It has a slightly waxy texture with a light pigment that I find provides more control to style your brows in a natural way. No scary clown brows here. I wear the midnight brown color.

Anastasia Clear Brow Gel — I wear this brow gel on my eyebrows almost every day. I just swipe it on after I’ve filled in my brows to keep them in place, or I wear it alone on days when I’m not wearing makeup to look a little more polished. It’s one of those little products that make a big difference.

Home & Kitchen

Starbucks Recycled Glass Cold Cup — Alan and I just switched to these glass versions of the plastic tumblers we were using every day. I’m on a bit of a crusade to limit the amount of plastic (which can leach toxins and other nonsense) that we’re exposed to in our diets. We’ve always been big fans of this style cup because the lids provide on-the-go convenience and the straws help us drink a lot more water. Note: While the lid and straw are made of plastic, the cup itself is made of glass which is better than nothing in our book. We’re going to test out glass straws next — stay tuned for our consensus on those!

Kai Pure Komachi 2 6-Piece Knife Set — Alan bought these knives on a whim because he didn’t want to mess up my expensive Global knives. But these have turned out to be the knives we use the most! They’re razor-sharp, lightweight and come in all the different styles a home cook could need — the bread knife, paring knife and santoku are my favorites. For the price, these knives are an amazing bargain.

Nikon 35mm 1.8 — This is the lens I shoot with 100% of the time. I feel a little embarrassed admitting that since photographers usually switch up their lenses based on what they’re shooting, but, hey, if the lens fits, right? I use it to shoot food, fashion, crafts and everything in between. One day I’ll get around to trying different lenses, but for now, this has been a great all-purpose lens.
