If I had a nickel for every time a member of my family was brutally honest to the point of rudeness, I would've been crushed under the weight of loose change before my tenth birthday.

My hubby and I have hosted the holidays every year since before we got married. No matter how much thought, preparation and butter goes into our feast, dinner is just not complete without some sort of mention of my dad's most recent bowel movement. He doesn't just limit this kind of dialogue to holidays though. Pretty much any family meal is occasion enough to bring out a BM commentary. I think he does it just because he gets a kick out of seeing everyone cringe and roll their eyes.

In one of my college classes, the professor was trying to make a point about why the American Revolution was so important. He was pretending to be England and said "Let me house my soldiers in your house - just three rooms."

I exclaimed out loud, "Well, dang, there goes my whole apartment."

He laughed and said, "Well, you can still sleep in the bathtub."

I didn't correct him and say that those three rooms would include the bathroom as well.

...ah, campus housing.

I guess it's all about tough love, huh? :)

In college, I switched to a double degree in a non-bio majors. Needless to say, my dad in particular was quite verbal about my not wanting to become a doctor.

For Father's Day earlier this year, I gave him my diploma (all prettied up and everything!). He responded with, "Why would I want something like this?"

I LOVE the holidays. My birthday is on the 5th of October, which I always look forward to, then Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! No, I didn't forget New Years, its just a lame holiday. :P

I think you're costume is great, and hope you went with it for the big day! If it makes you feel better, the day before Halloween I was in the mall, dressed fairly normal. Cowboy hat, jeans, sweater, duster, boots. This little girl came over and asked if that was my costume... I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry.
