The BEST Halloween costume I've ever seen was a photo of my brother when he was about three. My mom didn't think he would want to dress up, so she didn't have a costume for him. Alas, he wanted to go trick or treating after all. So she made a tall spiky crown of green construction paper. The she took a yellow pillow case, drew some lines on it, cut a hole in the other end, et voila. Pineapple.

I guess I passed "boring" a long time ago, but I have had a great witch hat and cape for years. I think it's perfect, because when I dressed at work, I could just wear black pants, turtleneck and shoes/boots, so if someone less than enthusiastic came in, you take off the cape and hat and look passably normal.

It's a sad truth but most of the holidays have lost much of their fun factor for me over the years. Halloween in particular. It's a shame too because I used to love dressing up. Instead I just entertain myself with doing my teenage niece's costume make-up for her every year, and pretending to not be at home when the trick-or-treaters show up, so that I can enjoy my bag of mini Snickers in peace. ;-)

...And I just realized that I'm working on Halloween. Damn. Growing up kinda blows.
