Never Again, Hopefully

Under normal circumstances, saying, "Goodbye, I hope I never see you again" to someone just as you're leaving would be an incredibly off putting thing to say. But it was something that I found myself saying to all the familiar nurses we passed this evening as we wheeled Alan down the hospital hallway. I hope they didn't take it the wrong way; some of them were really nice people. It's just that Alan's finally been released (!), and I really hope we never do see them again (at least in that hospital in this lifetime). I had planned a longer post, but I think I'll have to save it for tomorrow. We're going to watch a movie now (without the distraction of any roommates watching Cops and all that goodness). :D

I'm glad you kept it short, no offense, but spending time with him now that he is home is certainly more important. Congrats!

I am so happy for Alan and you! And I hope you can enjoy all the normal, wonderful, tiny things we miss so much when we are forced to be in a hospital!
So enjoy:
the bed, the noises of your home, the little spider web under the table, the scrambled eggs on toast, the window open at night, the everlasting shower that washes away all the bad, the night, the curious cat passing by to say hi, the walk at 5 am because I thought I had to go looking for fresh air. If you were in Rome I would make sure you could have cornetti e cappuccino on your doorstep this time.

Home sweet home, where no one will disturb you for hours and days on end. No more beep beep beeping, no more tubes and drips and needles. Well done for getting through so many weeks and weeks.
I like the part in your blog post about 'Hope to never see you again'.. all the nurses said that to me this time :)
I wrote a poem about it last year. I'm posting it here for you.

'A Brief Meeting'
Names come and go
on the wards
Only an impression lingers
long after
cheery farewells
and
"Hope to never see you back heres!"
Katrina, nurse from Belfast,
remembers me from university
Dolly, blithe spirit,
"Would you believe I'm 90?"
Louise with the rare cancer
talking without a voice box
Edna, Joan, Quiet Ann,
Women, their lives unplanned
for days like these
Days that erase
their femininity.

I was on a shared ward last year, but in isolation, like Alan, this year. Hope sleep comes sweet and blissful tonight.

Thank you everyone for all the support!! Not sure what we have planned -- a whole bunch of being normal and not in a hospital room for sure -- but Australia and Rome sound good right about now... :) TGIF!

Sobrina and Alan, although I'm a newbie to your site I can't deny the fact your story touched me even though you wrote it in such light terms. I can't tell you how pleased I am to know that Alan is now home... where he should always remain. My bestfriend is presently in Rome as we speak with her new hubby, my ex-husband. LOL! Yes, this is quite the Jerry Springer segment indeed, but we march to our own beats. Heehee. She says the view is breathtaking and although she's a true blue Harley Davidson Hogette (rough and tough)... she actually broke down and shed tears at the sights. So maybe this is a trip you and Alan should think about taking. No one can better see beauty as those who are in love and seeing it together for the FIRST time.

I'll be keeping an eye out to see how your new life progresses.
