Office Talk: The unsexy parts of jobs

When I was in the sixth grade, the highlight of my day was sentence correction time. The teacher would project a sentence riddled with grammar and spelling mistakes in front of the class and would ask for volunteers to come up and correct it (which I always hoped would be me). Fast forward to today and editing copy is still one of my favorite things. My cousin Denise, who hates grammar, thinks I'm crazy. There's nothing glamorous about it, but it's so interesting to me. Are there unsexy parts of your job that you love? I used to work with a lady who was all about spreadsheets!

I've worked in architecture and now interior design and I have really come to love construction documents which most designers get bored to tears with.

OMG I am the grammar/usage editor for the entire department. Whether they ask me or not, I am not shy about making edits, even on partners' work. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your "lesser known" editing symbols, I MUST steal and use those!

Siv, that's so interesting. I don't think I've ever looked at one! Andrea, I find myself needing to use the adverb and coffee spill ones a lot hahah.

I love editing copy, too. When I get asked to edit or revise something, I stop what I'm doing and whip out my red pen.
