A friend of mine was once at a business lunch with some co-workers when she had a very awkward moment. Since they were at a Japanese restaurant, one of the guys—whose first language was not English—ordered tako (octopus). In between taking huge bites, he couldn’t stop talking about how much he loved it, but he kept calling it the wrong name. He was enjoying himself so much, she couldn’t bring herself to correct him, so for the rest of the lunch, he kept asking if she wanted any of his octopussy. I laugh every time I think about it.
Have you had any awkward/funny lunch moments? I wish they happened to me more often!

Back in high school, I had a Spanish teacher take us all out for lunch before the end of the term. Of course, it was at a restaurant where we could only speak in Spanish. After our meals came, our teacher politely asked for condiments for our table. "Condóns" was a word I didn't recognize, nor was it expected to be requested as a side item. After a blank stare from our waiter, he responded "Senõr, we do not have condoms here. I would be happy to bring you some condimentos though."
Just goes to show we can all make mistakes while speaking, and it creates one great memory for a lifetime!
hahaha that's awesome 🙂
