Now that my sister Sophie (who is a beauty maven) lives close by, I’m learning so many of her beauty tips and tricks that today I thought I’d share two. First up is a blowdrying tip for girls with naturally wavy hair, like me! Up until recently, I’d never blow dry my hair. Anytime I’d try, my hair would just end up looking weird and fluffy.
Sophie also has naturally wavy hair, and when she was staying at our apartment, I discovered her secret for voluminous, defined waves…
Here are her steps:
1) Before you shower, comb the knots out of your hair.
2) Afterwards, run a little bit of product through your damp hair (I like Aveda’s Be Curly Style Prep, but Sophie says any hair gel also works).
3) Flip your head upside down and blow dry sections of your hair with the diffuser attached.
4) Once it’s all dry, you can straighten your bangs if you’d like.
And that’s it! It’s so simple that I can’t believe I’ve never used a diffuser before. I’ve done it a few times now (like when I first met my friend Jennifer’s baby girl, above) and love how it enhances the natural texture of my waves, making it so much bouncier than when I air dry.
Do you blow dry your hair? Have you ever used a diffuser? Am I the only one who thought they looked overly complicated and would throw them away?
My hair has only started being more wavy in recent years, when I was a kid it was a lot thinner and stick straight. Weird, right? But my dad and brother both have perfect curls so maybe that gene is taking over…I've never thought to bust out the diffuser, I kind of twist and pin it in buns when it's damp if I want to enhance the bit of curl I've got going on. Need to find mine again!
wow that's another trick I've never tried! Maybe I will try that one tonight 🙂 So many savvy wavy-haired ladies out there…
